Port Isaac

Port Isaac is a small fishing town on the coast of Cornwall - windy, cold and misty today - but interesting!

Stairway

Stairway to the top of the dome - training for the next Bearathon! 9 sets of stairs to the top - can take pictures from there (hard to keep the condensation off the lens)

Eden Place

Headed to Cornwall and went to Eden Place. It's a creation that shows how much can be made with plant products instead of animal and fossil fuel. One of the biodomes is rain forest - 80 degrees and VERY humid.

Farm

Went to the farm this afternoon - fields are a beautiful patchwork of green. Cows were in for milking - all the milk goes to make cheese. Harry's head is in front of their house!

Trolly

We rode the trolly up the hill at Linmouth. It is run by water - at the top of the hill the car is filled up with water - as top car comes down it pulls the bottom car ((which has no water)up the hill. First car dumps its water out at the bottom so it will be empty for the ride up.

Harbour

Tide is out - all the boats are on the ground. Later in the day the tide comes in and the boats are in the water - moral of this story is check the tides if you plan to take your boat out!

Lynmouth

Lynmouth is a small town on the coast - in 1952 it was flooded causing great damage and loss of life. Today quaint flats on the hillside and a stream bubbling over rocks brings lots of tourists to the area in the summer.

Stonehenge

We are now in Barnstaple - stopped at Stonehenge on the way - amazing the size of the stones!

protest

Glad we weren't in London for their protest that went crazy - we watched a march in downtown Cork of school children and parents - they have a temporary school that has been used for a number of years and they are wanting a real school building. They had signs and some stood at this area and talked.

Cork

The Lee River runs thru Cork - we saw rowing teams practicing several times. The city is built up on hills from the river - very interesting!

castle

this is the Bunratty Castle - means end of the river (ratty) The water around the castle runs into the Shannon River. History goes back to the days of the Vikings.

Ennistyman

Traveled to the coast to visit cousin Nancy - the harbour at Doolan has a ferry that takes people on rides during the summer. The St. Nicholas is an old whaling ship that was built in the 20's.

Cork Fire Brigade

Toured the Cork fire station - took pictures of Harry and I with 2 members of the Red Knights - also the crew working at the time and an emergency vehicle. They cover a large area and carry a generator just in case they get stuck out in an area without help for awhile.

Buildings

Westminster Chapel and Victoria Palace (a theatre)

Emergency vehicles here are LOUD!!! - no decibel rules for sure. Didn't get to ride the double decker bus - arrived in Cork this afternoon - very pretty here - will have pictures tomorrow.

Traffic Jam

Trafalgar Square - buses, bikes, cars at a standstill!! We noticed a bunch of bikers with yellow jackets. Met up with them later at the Sherlock Holmes Pub - they are protesting a decision by the city council that makes them pay as much to park as a car. So, each Wednesday they act like cars - go slow around the square and snarl traffic - very interesting.

Abbey Road

Abbey Road across from studio - where the Beatles crossed the road - actually a very busy place, they must have had help!

Architecture

Lots of the old buildings still have the chimmney - could be out of Mary Poppins - That picture doesn't want to post - this is some of the cabs in London - very colorful!

Buckingham

Went to Buckingham Palace today for changing of the guard - thousands of other people! Lots of security - police on horses, police with bullet proof vests, helicopters. They are planting flowers, painting the gate getting ready for the wedding.

London

We arrived in London - have walked a lot today and took a boat ride on the Thames. The archetecture is really neat here - most buildings are real old. I have added pictures of a couple of new things close to our hotel - a place where we ate is planning their own party for William and Kate. Most pictures I took today were on the high tech media card that doesn't work and play well with the netbook. Will have more tomorrow when my brain isn't so fuzzy from lack of sleep.
